Obituary for Wilbur Allen "Pete" Myers

Wilber “Pete” Allen Myers gave up the ghost and celebrated his first heavenly birthday on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the age of 68. Pete Myers was a lifelong resident of Putnam County, Florida and was always the man around town that everyone knew, and everyone could count on. He wouldn’t only give you the shirt off his back, but also would ask if you needed a hot meal and some pocket change. Being a true “Florida Man,” Pete, in his earlier years, showed no shyness to an adventure; whether it be wading into alligator-infested waters to hit that legendary fishing-hole (which, let’s face it, is a rite of passage for most Floridians) or tracking that six-pointer that he swore he hit until getting completely lost in the woods…right at sundown, most naturally.
Pete prided himself on his family and the life he was able to provide for his children. Pete was a meat-cutter for the majority of his life. His occupation and teamwork with his first wife, Sheri, allowed him and his family to have a Putnam County middle-class lifestyle, which included lots of extracurriculars and enjoyable excursions for his family. Pete was a “magic-man” type of carpenter and could miraculously create anything out of a two-by-four; his most extraordinary gift being cabinetry. His cooking also happened to be so good you could “slap yo’ mama.”
Pete had a unique bond with each of his two children, Danielle and Kirt, and he showed how special they were to him. His most important priority was to always be teaching them both the skills needed to survive the world. He extended these gifts when he was given his first grandbaby, Geneva. And when his second grandbaby, Scarlet, kicked and screamed her way through the universe, he was over the moon for his “red-headed grandbaby.”
Pete, you did so much for this earth than you knew. We love you.
Pete is survived by his two children, Danielle M. Ocasio and Kirt A. Myers; his two grandchildren, Geneva and Scarlet; his two sisters, Janice Dixon and Leah Edwards; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and many lifelong friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Dailey and his father E. T. Myers Sr., his brother, E. T. “Junior” Myers Jr., his first wife and mother of his children, Sharon Myers.
Services celebrating Pete’s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Rudy Howard officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services at 2:00 P.M.
