Obituary for William Charles "Bill" Cotter

William (Bill) Cotter, a light extinguished too soon. Bill was born on October 9, 1945, in Woburn, Massachusetts. He lost his battle on December 8, 2022 at Roberts Haven Hospice.
Bill was a man of many talents and passions. He started playing guitar when he was 14 and was a professional musician and singer most of his life. Bill moved to Putnam County with his wife in 1972, where he was a plumbing contractor. His customers dubbed him “The Singing Plumber.” Many still refer to him that way. In 1990, Bill became a licensed massage therapist and practiced massage therapy for the next 25 years. He loved helping people to feel better and stand taller. While working as a massage therapist, Bill decided to go back to college where he earned a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. Bill was passionate about keeping fit and athletics. He entered many running, biking and strength competitions and always excelled. His favorite competition, and the one he was most proud of was Superstars where he won overall in his age group. Bill was always driven to excel and his greatest pleasure was helping people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Cotter and Catherine Eileen Cotter; brothers, Thomas Cotter and James Cotter. Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 57 years, Marianna Cotter. He is also survived by 3 children; William Cotter Jr (Susan), Ellie Murphy and Shane Cotter. He leaves 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Fred Cotter (Betty) and Carl Cotter (Renee); 2 sisters, Eileen Cotter (Sam) and Carol Cotter. Bill was loved and will be missed by many nieces and nephews, particularly, John Lewis (Kathryn), Adriana Bissey (Brian) and Mike Good (Charity); and many wonderful friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on January 7th, from 1:00PM to 4:00PM, at the Palatka Moose Lodge.
