Obituary

William L. “W.L.” Hines, Jr., 89, of Palatka, passed from this life on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Palatka, W.L. served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He returned to reside in Palatka in 1959 after having lived in Jacksonville where he had worked as a bookkeeper with Mack Trucks and at Swindal-Powell Wholesale Furniture Company in Jacksonville. After moving back to Palatka, W.L. worked 33 years as a records supervisor at Georgia Pacific Paper Mill. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Palatka as well as American Legion Post #293 in Interlachen.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Wesley Ann Baker Hines and a daughter, Linda Black.
W.L. is survived by 2 step-sons, George Donald Ansley of Palatka and John Benjamin Ansley of Virginia Beach, VA, a son-in-law, Mike Black of Palatka, a sister, Helen Pirtle, 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
