William Henry “Billy” McCormick, 91, of Hawthorne, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following an extended illness. He was born in Jacksonville, FL and had lived in Hawthorne since 2003 coming from Homestead, FL. Billy honorably served in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years as Senior Master Sergeant. He attended Yale University for a year and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida International University. Billy later worked as a security guard for Miami Dade Public Health Trust and was also a dog trainer. In his leisure time he enjoyed playing chess and fishing. Billy was of the Greek Orthodox Faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Julia McCormick.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Fumiko McCormick of Hawthorne, sons, William Tyrus McCormick (Kathy) of Spruce Pine, NC, James Joshua McCormick (Donna) of Huntersville, NC, Alexander Beauregard McCormick of Hawthorne and Toshinobu McCormick (Shawn) of Elk Grove, CA, 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Billy will be laid to rest in Jacksonville National Cemetery on May 19, 2023 at 10:30 A.M., with full Military honors provided by the United States Air Force.
