Obituary

William David Stamper, 85, of Interlachen, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka. He was born in Winchester, Kentucky and resided in Putnam County for 26 years coming from Winchester. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and Marine Corp during the Korean War and Vietnam War. Following his time in the service, William worked as a service station manager with Somerset Oil in Winchester and Mooreland, KY and later as a manager of Richard’s Poultry Farms in Zephyrhills, FL. William was a natural salesman and had an uncanny ability to buy and sell items others couldn’t see value in. He was known around Putnam County as the guy who would buy most anything – the more unique the better! William was a member of the DAV in Lexington and Cincinnati and American Legion Post #293 in Interlachen.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kellie Stamper, 2 sons, Darrell Stamper and Donald Stamper and his parents, Thomas H. Stamper and Gentry Willoughby Stamper.
William is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Stamper of Interlachen, his 9 surviving children, William David Stamper, Jerry Stamper, Teresa Harris, Doris Greene, Merrill Sizemore, Bill Armstrong, John Day, Bobby Whitaker, Willie Stamper and Laurie Roberts, a brother, Thomas Stamper, Jr., at least 32 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
No local services are scheduled. Graveside services and burial will be at Winchester Cemetery under the direction of Scobee Funeral Home in Winchester, KY.
Memories and condolences may be expressed to the family at William ’s Book of Memories page at www.johnsonoverturffunerals.com.
Local arrangements are entrusted to Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
