John Reid Sheppard, 87, passed away peacefully from old age and cantankerousness on
Monday, August 17, 2020, at the Community Hospice - Bailey Family Center for Caring in St. Augustine, Fl. Born June 17, 1933, in Miami, Fl., He was the son
of the late John and Laura (Reid) Sheppard. John was a United States Air Force veteran and met
his wife, Patience, while serving. They were married on January 24, 1956, in Miami, Fl. and raised three sons. They resided in Key Largo, Fl. until 1987, when they moved back to Bolton Landing, NY. John was the Outside Plant Supervisor for Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Key Largo. He was a member
of The Florida Keys Masonic Lodge 336 and Scout Leader for Pack 588 in Tavernier, Fl. After moving to
Bolton Landing, John spent time volunteering with the Bolton Meals on Wheels Program, working as a
groundskeeper for the Bolton Cemetery Association and Rainbow Beach Community. John was a member
of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Bolton Landing, NY. He and Patience made many trips to England where she collected teddy bears, him being the biggest (and grumpiest) of all.
After Patience passed, John moved to Lake Como, Fl., to be closer to family and spent his remaining years
terrorising his beloved cats Buster and Scoot and lunching with the guys on Thursdays at the Hide-a-way. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patience, two brothers, Harry and
William Sheppard and son Wayne Sheppard. John is survived by two sons Michael Sheppard and his wife Rosanna
of Pomona Park, Fl. and Edgar Sheppard and his wife Stacie of Ocala, Fl; a daughter-in-law, Karen Sheppard of Key Largo, Fl; four grandchildren, Ashley Sheppard Harris and husband Keith of Crescent City, Fl., John Sheppard of
Pomona Park, Fl., Matt Sheppard of Ocala, Fl., and Billy McNew of Ocala, Fl; and three great grandchildren, River and Bay Harris
of Crescent City Fl., and Matt Sheppard. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to The South Putnam Christian Services Center at
223 Summit St, Crescent City, FL 32112.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
