The world suffered an enormous loss when Stanley Mark Curry, 70, passed from this life on July 22, 2020. He was born in East Gadsden, Alabama and had lived in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina before retiring in East Palatka in 2015. He was a graduate of Gadsden High School and was an Alumni of Auburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences. His career began with St. Joe Paper and he later worked for Georgia Pacific for 39 years, retiring as Vice President of Wood Procurement over the Southeast Region. Stan received many awards during his tenure at Georgia Pacific, including The Outstanding Georgia Citizen award from the Georgia Secretary of State in 1988 and the 2004 Regional Vice President of the Year award from Georgia Pacific. In his leisure time, Stan enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was an avid outdoorsman who rarely sat still. He loved his garden, especially the hot peppers that he ate raw with most every meal. Stan had a lifelong love of all things Auburn and could be found each Saturday in the fall cheering on his beloved Tigers football team.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. Stan had a sense of humor rivaled by few. He was politely unfiltered, raw and honest, genuine and loving. He was known as Big Daddy, Papa Stan, Grandaddy, and Grandpa by his many grandchildren, mostly due to his larger than life presence. Stan wanted to be sure his grandchildren learned as they grew. Whether the lessons were how to hunt and fish, drive a boat, or how to sing “Oh Suzannah” and “Oklahoma”, he made it all fun. Stan was beloved by all who knew him. He was a kind and generous man who would help anyone in need. He had an amazing sense of humor, and a booming laugh that made everyone within hearing distance smile.
He is preceded in death by his parents, M. C. Curry and Dorothy Sue Curry, and sister, Jimmie Sue Hamilton.
He is survived by his wife, Dottie Curry, children, Holli Britt (Andy), Mason Curry (Wendy), Natalie Curry, James Curry (Sarah), step-children, Bobby Hiatt (Christine) and Kelly Steward (Eric), sister, Jan Lindsey, grandchildren, Jake Britt (Erica), Jesse Britt, Raven Curry, Blayden Curry, Jack Hooker, Lily Hooker, Aidan Curry, Eisley Curry, Zen Hiatt, Brayden Steward, and Bodie Steward, as well as great-granddaughter, Haddie Grace Britt

Due to the current pandemic, a Celebration of Life will be scheduled and announced at a later date.

Donations can be made in his honor to the Auburn School of Forestry, The Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship fund, or St. Jude Children’s hospital, who saved the life of his granddaughter, Raven Curry.

Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
