Obituary

Joan Ann “Mema” Roberts, 88, of Satsuma, passed away Friday, October 2, 2020 at Kindred Hospital North Florida in Green Cove Springs after a long illness of Leukemia and Congestive Heart Failure. Born in Washington, D.C., she was educated in Loudon County Schools. Joan worked in nursing for 14 years and later as a waitress. She was married first to Fred Fletcher and then married Charles “Chuck” Roberts in 1981.
Joan moved to Satsuma in 1975 from Manassas, VA. She and Chuck bought and built up a restaurant in Satsuma which they named, Mema & Co. She operated the restaurant for years until failing health forced her to sell the business to its’ current day owners. Joan was also an active member of the San Mateo Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served on many committees and drove the Sunday School bus.
In addition to her husband, Joan was preceded in death by a daughter, Jocelyn Brown and a step-son, Michael Roberts.
She is survived by her children, Maurice Fletcher, Aletha Gates (Jim), Marilyn Gaedele, Yvonne Bramble, Richard Roberts and James Roberts, her step-children, Charles, Jr., Elizabeth, Brenda and Michelle, 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Melody, Roxanne, Insley and Charles, 10 great-grandchildren, Cora, Carolyn, Jocelyn, Kaya, Damien, Aiden, Bailee, Cade, Iris and Kyler and many, many step grand and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the nursing staff and doctors at Putnam Community Medical Center and at Kindred Hospital for the wonderful care she received.
No services are scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Putnam First Cancer Fund, 600 Zeagler Dr., Palatka, FL 32177.
Memories and condolences may be expressed to the family at Joan’s Book of Memories page at www.johnsonoverturffunerals.com.
Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.

I just learned of the passing of a dear friend. Good times with Chuck and Joan are part of my very special memories. For many years they treated my family as their own and their family was part of ours. My prayers and sympathy to everyone. I think of you often.
